Joint and segment coordinate systems revisited.

چکیده
The joint coordinates systems (JCS) of the hip, knee, and ankle have been extensively described [1, 2, 3]. The principle is to embed a flexion-extension (FE) axis in the proximal segment and an internalexternal rotation (IER) (or adduction-abduction (AA)) axis in the distal segment, following anatomical or functional directions. For the joint displacements, the origins of the proximal and distal segments are also superimposed in a neutral joint position. These definitions apply perfectly to each joint one by one but become problematic when considering simultaneously the hip, knee, and ankle. In fact, there cannot be a unique orthogonal segment coordinate system (SCS) for the thigh and leg that matches with the JCS axes and origins. This paper proposes (1) to redefine the thigh and leg SCS starting from the hip, knee, and ankle JCS, (2) to deduce the computation of the joint angles and displacements, and (3) to apply these proposals to running data measured with pin markers [7].

Repeatability of gait data using a functional hip joint centre and a mean helical knee axis.
Repeatability of traditional kinematic and kinetic models is affected by the ability to accurately locate anatomical landmarks (ALs) to define joint centres and anatomical coordinate systems. Numerical methods that define joint centres and axes of rotation independent of ALs may also improve the repeatability of kinematic and kinetic data. The purpose of this paper was to compare the repeatabil...
متن کاملA two-level discount model for coordinating a decentralized supply chain considering stochastic price-sensitive demand
In this paper, a discount model is proposed to coordinate pricing and ordering decisions in a two-echelon supply chain (SC). Demand is stochastic and price sensitive while lead times are fixed. Decentralized decision making where downstream decides on selling price and order size is investigated. Then, joint pricing and ordering decisions are extracted where both members act as a single entity ...
متن کاملBertrand’s Paradox Revisited: More Lessons about that Ambiguous Word, Random
The Bertrand paradox question is: “Consider a unit-radius circle for which the length of a side of an inscribed equilateral triangle equals 3 . Determine the probability that the length of a ‘random’ chord of a unit-radius circle has length greater than 3 .” Bertrand derived three different ‘correct’ answers, the correctness depending on interpretation of the word, random. Here we employ geomet...
متن کاملISB recommendation on definitions of joint coordinate systems of various joints for the reporting of human joint motion--Part II: shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand.
In this communication, the Standardization and Terminology Committee (STC) of the International Society of Biomechanics proposes a definition of a joint coordinate system (JCS) for the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand. For each joint, a standard for the local axis system in each articulating segment or bone is generated. These axes then standardize the JCS. The STC is publishing these recommend...
متن کاملSweep Line Algorithm for Convex Hull Revisited
Convex hull of some given points is the intersection of all convex sets containing them. It is used as primary structure in many other problems in computational geometry and other areas like image processing, model identification, geographical data systems, and triangular computation of a set of points and so on. Computing the convex hull of a set of point is one of the most fundamental and imp...
